Hi everyone.
The Storm Chase Card does two things.
ONE, it preserves a bit of lost Twister (1996) history. During the filming of Twister in 1995, if anyone wanted to access any filming locations with their car, they had to have this Twister card visible. Like on the dashboard or somewhere. Very few, or any, still exist. But every storm chaser I’ve ever talked to said the Twister movie either inspired them to get into storm chasing, weather or it had a profound impact on them. So, I think every chaser should have one of these cards on their dash. We should all get access to the filming locations – in spirit.
And since this is already the dashboard, I thought I could do something really useful on the other side.
TWO, the other side is a storm chaser, weather fanatic, reference card. There are QR codes to the National Weather Service’s reporting information and links. There you can find all the ways of reporting storms, tornadoes, and such. There is also really valuable and life-saving info there.
There are two hail gauges. One is a ruler along the edge explaining some of the hail sizes and names. That ruler can also be used for measuring snow or water levels.
This card is made of PVC plastic, like a heavy-duty sign (3 mm). That way, you can leave it in the snow, leave it in water, etc.
Also, I didn’t like it when I would take pictures of hail in my hand that the hail would melt. So, I made the circular hail gauge is there to place a hail stone onto it and take a picture. That way, it won’t melt, and you can measure it by what circle it fills up.
And there is a QR code to my channels and websites, where you can get the Storm Chase Card and other ideas I have in the works.
Weather is everywhere. We live in it, breathe it, are affected by it, record it, research it, try to understand it, chase it. Weather is interesting. Weather is fun.
